The Faculty of Health Sciences, from the social area, and humanistic community has created the Chair as an open forum for addressing public health in its various dimensions. On this occasion for us to present to the academic community and society in general of the municipality of Cali, one of the problems that gave rise to national policy guidelines on health and addressed by the Colombian Network of Policy Research and Health Systems, in its various sectoral nodes, supported by Colciencias and the Ministry of Social Protection: The Public Health and Management Public Policy
Addressing the issue of Public Health from the dimension of public policy, we are motivated to opt for a look at Public Health, as an object of study and research component of the training of health professionals from the relationship between the health of people and the formulation of policies related to health and its determinants. Hence, we consider the amount on ways of involving people in the formulation of policies affecting the care of individual and collective health. Each company assumes
Public Health and its policies differently, in accordance to the political, social, cultural and economic. How cultural and public health is assumed is closely related to production methods, relationships and social systems in which is immersed. In Colombia, public health, in light of new trends and challenges, is an essential right which implies, in turn, recognize that this right is violated by private interests and the model of profitability and accumulation, raw today on the needs of individuals and communities.
As a social process, public health is determined by multiple factors that affect the lives of human groups, becoming, in turn, in research areas, which would describe, understand and explain the various phenomena that determine weaknesses and potential of health services system, social and community organizations, environmental conditions, employment, status as determinants of population health.

• approaches to the analysis of the management of Public Health, understood as a state policy.
• Building on the academic community and society in general, a reflection that allow to approach the situation being experienced by the current health system in light of the reforms.
• Consider Public Health and its relationship to social determinants and conditions as a field of knowledge for research.
• Participate as a university research network for knowledge management in public health, creating study groups and / or work, where research, teaching and social projection, are the relevant concepts of the process.
• Open discussion on potential and pending reforms the current health system in Colombia. GUEST PROFILE
Dr. Rubén Darío Gómez is a doctor who graduated from the University of Antioquia, with masters and doctorate in public health. His doctoral thesis was honored by the University of Alicante in Spain, which dealt with the issue of avoidable mortality as an indicator of the impact of health reform in Colombia. (1985-2001). He has held several important positions in the Regional Health System. Coordinator is currently the Inter-Agency Project Management Public Policy and Health since 2001, where he has led and motivated in different regions of the country, the formation networks and groups actively involved in the analysis, evaluation and formulation of health policies.
is Executive Secretary of the Colombian Network of Policy Research and Health Systems, University teaching in undergraduate and graduate degrees in epidemiology, public policy management, health research methodology, among others. Program Coordinator Master of Public Health, University of Antioquia. He has consulted for various projects in the field of Public Health and Epidemiology, in projects such as: The proposed decentralization of health systems in Paraguay with the University of Florida (USA). He has also participated as a consultant to the Colombian Association of Health ASSALUD, the report to Congress on the evaluation of Law 100 of 1993 and the Draft Local decentralization of health system Viota (Cundinamarca).
